Lindsay Webber

As a head of Strategic Solutions at OmniPro, Lindsay’s focus is on helping practices achieve on-going best practice compliance, providing in-house training and technical assistance in audit and financial reporting.

Lindsay is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and Chartered Accountants Ireland. She trained with KPMG in Johannesburg and specialised in external audit of financial services companies. She then spent six years lecturing audit and financial reporting to under-grad and post-grad students at Rhodes University in South Africa before moving to Ireland and returning to practice in a small, and then a medium sized firm where she was an audit manager. She is passionate about combining her academic and practice backgrounds to provide technical information in a useful and practical way.

Outside of her accounting qualifications Lindsay holds a PGDiploma in Higher Education from Rhodes University, an MBA from Trinity College Dublin and a Diploma in Forensic Accounting from Chartered Accountants Ireland.

Barry Jefferd

Barry Jefferd is the Taxation Partner at George Hay Chartered Accountants, advising on all major taxes with specialist expertise in Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax, Trusts and property/land transactions. He lectures widely for professional bodies and holds qualifications as a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Adviser, and STEP member.

Barry was one of the first accountants in the country to pass the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales’ probate qualification and now heads up GH Probate Ltd – the probate division of George Hay. He is also a director of GH Wills Ltd, George Hay’s division providing bespoke Will writing services.

He supports other accountancy firms with probate and specialist tax matters, and he is an expert in Share and Business Valuations having appeared in both the High and County Courts as an expert witness. He is currently Deputy President of the Association of Tax Technicians (ATT), the country’s leading professional body dealing with tax compliance.

Phillip Dolman

Phillip runs a medium sized accountancy practice on the outskirts of Bristol, providing accounting, taxation compliance and planning services to individuals and owner managed businesses. Phillip enjoys using his wealth of technical experience to help clients with a range of taxation solutions in respect of business succession, tax mitigation, restructuring or providing capital tax planning for high-net-worth individuals. Actively running his own busy practice, he understands the practical challenges of tax legislation and focuses his courses towards those in small or medium sized practice. Phillip has extensive experience writing and presenting taxation courses for students preparing for their professional exams. In his spare time, he enjoys running, open water swimming, walking and spending time with his daughters.

ATT - Technical Officer

Helen Thornley

Helen is a technical officer with the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) where her role includes looking at the latest changes in tax policy and working with HMRC on developments and improvements to their systems and processes.

Helen’s background is in personal tax, and prior to joining the ATT she worked in the north of England advising family businesses and high net worth individuals. Helen writes for publications including Tax Adviser, AccountingWEB, Accountancy Age and Taxation magazine.

She has appeared on BBC Radio 4's Money Box Live and BBC Radio 5 Live's Wake up to Money in addition to many local radio stations and been quoted in the Financial Times, Times, Telegraph and Guardian. Helen is also a member of the CIOT, ICAEW and STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).

VATskills Ltd

Edd Thompson

Edd is a specialist VAT trainer and VAT adviser. He is both a chartered tax adviser and chartered accountant.

Edd was previously Head of Indirect Taxes for Tolley, a leading provider of tax research in the UK. He trained in VAT with a top 10 accountancy practice and returned to the world of VAT following his time at Tolley. He has also been seconded to the in-house VAT function of a large North American head quartered bank.

Edd splits his time between his training business VATskills and advising clients as VAT Director of Cubed Tax.

Edd has taught on both ATT and CTA qualifications and has lectured for professional bodies.

He has written for many of the leading VAT and tax publications including De Voil Indirect Tax Service, Tolley’s Value Added Tax, Tax Journal, Taxation Magazine and Tax Adviser.

Lovell Consulting

John Lovell

John has over 30 years’ experience as a capital allowances specialist. John trained with the accounting firm Arthur Andersen and helped found the capital allowances team. At the time, Andersen’s were the first accounting firm to set up a capital allowances specialist team and employ chartered surveyors and train them in taxation. John later formed Lovell Consulting, which for the last 21 years specialises in capital allowances. John qualified as a chartered quantity surveyor with McBains. John qualified as a member of the Association of Tax Technicians. John was educated at Reading University where he gained a First-Class honours degree in Quantity Surveying. He gained a scholarship to Oxford University Green Templeton College and attained a Master of Philosophy degree in Management Studies. John is a Chartered Surveyor.
