Conference Welcome & Sector Overview 2024

Our opening session of the conference will cover a high-level overview of the charity sector in the UK, to set the scene for the rest of the day. The session will provide an introduction to the sector, and will cover:

• An overview of the charity sector in the UK
• A review of the regulatory structure in each nation, including charity law requirements in relation to accounting & audit;
• A review of key updates to charity law in each nation; and
• A look at what’s coming up for the rest of the conference.

By attending this session, you will gain a high-level understanding of the charity sector in the UK, including how the three Regulators work together to provide a consistent economic environment for charities in each nation. The Impact of Changes in Corporate & Financial Reporting for Charities

This webinar will present an overview of the current and upcoming changes in UK corporate and financial reporting. The session will cover company law changes as a result of the Economic Crime & Corporate Transparency Act implementation, as well as a review of the upcoming changes to UK GAAP, specifically in relation to how they will impact charities across the UK.

Sustainability reporting is a fast-developing area, and this session will review the current UK requirements, and look to the changes that will be implemented over the next few years, and how charities can prepare.

Finally, the session will explore how financial statements can be used as a powerful communication tool, to advocate for the company and promote its success and achievements. This part of the webinar will utilise real-life examples of how financial statements can demonstrate the activities and successes of a not-for-profit entity, and be used as a tool to promote the entity and the impact it has on its beneficiaries and their communities.

In this session Claire Thomson will cover the following topics;

• An overview of company law changes, as they impact charitable companies
• An introduction to the new FRS 102 & 105 standards
• Progress in sustainability reporting
• Telling your story – financial statements as a communication tool

However, there is a general assumption that there are no tax effects of income generation. This session is to raise awareness of where a tax liability can arise and how to reduce or eliminate this.

Audit Considerations for Charities 2024

Accounting for Charities 2024

Charity assignments are susceptible to a higher-than-normal risk level due to several factors. One such factor is the requirement to ensure that their accounts are prepared in accordance with an applicable financial reporting framework.

Applying the charity SORP is mandatory for charities in the UK above certain thresholds, which will be recapped in this session; we will cover some of the key considerations when applying SORP, looking at some common problem areas.

With both FRS 102 and the SORP undergoing review, we will also look at what lies ahead for charity accounting, and what changes we might see over the next few years.

The session will include:

• A recap of when the SORP is required, under the charity law of each of the three UK nations;
• Selecting an appropriate accounting framework
• Key accounting issues for charities applying the SORP
• The future of financial reporting for charities
