This session will cover the important role of payroll when an employee’s contract of employment is terminated. This could be after an employee has resigned and works their notice or an employee’s contract is ended and is paid in lieu of notice or the contract is terminated due to redundancy.

 

In this session Alexandra Durrant will cover the following topics: 

  • Importance of the contract of employment
  • Notice periods – statutory and contractual 
  • Elements of pay to be included in the final payslip
  • Clarity required on date contract is terminated
  • How to deal with additional pay due after P45 issued
  • Garden leave and pay in lieu of notice
  • Redundancy process and statutory redundancy pay

 

By attending this session, you have a better understanding of the role of the payroll department when employment comes to an end and the information that is required on termination of employment to ensure employee’s final pay is accurate 

 

The session will be relevant to general practitioners and their staff, general practitioners as employers, employees of companies with responsibility for payroll and related matters, accountants working in practice or business and to those individuals working in payroll whether for an accountancy practice or in business. It will also be useful for those working in the HR area

Alexandra Durrant

Alexandra Durrant is a chartered accountant and trainer. Until very recently she ran a practice in East Grinstead, providing audit, tax and accounting services to clients including payroll services and payroll/NIC advice. She is now focusing her time on training and consultancy through Aspiring Training Limited.

Alexandra has been involved in training since 1993 and regularly lectures to accounting practices and for training organisations. Her lectures cover payroll, national insurance and related employment issues as well as on benefits and expenses and forms P11D
