Course Details

We frequently hear from advisors that HMRC refuse to settle a case, and instead continue to press for more and more information ad infinitum. There is also a suspicion that HMRC deliberately prolong cases in the hope and expectation that the taxpayer will simply be beaten into submission. This session will look at the tactical use of Tribunal applications and the associated use of the ADR process in order to shift power away from the HMRC caseworker and achieve successful outcomes.

Nick Davies will cover the following topics during this session:

  • Introduction to the Tax Tribunal, its jurisdiction and its processes
  • Late appeals
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
  • The Tribunal Hearing
  • Strategy and Tactics

By attending this session, you will gain an understanding of the workings of the Tax Tribunal and, in particular, the benefits of understanding when to list a case into Tribunal for tactical reasons.

This session will be of particular interest to all advisers of clients who have disputes with HMRC.
