Course Details

Data Protection laws in the UK require all organisations that handle personal data to have a policy and an understanding that demonstrates how they uphold their legal obligations.

This extends to accountants because you can identify your clients and often their personal circumstances, you may have staff and use service providers to assist you in running your business. This course provides the foundation to those requirements.

In this session Mark Burnett will cover the following topics:

  • The specific laws we must consider including the new Data Use and Access Act 2025
  • The Principles of data protection
  • How to apply the lawful bases for different processing activities
  • The Information rights, how do they apply and when
  • International transfers of personal data, where do you store your information?
  • What is a data breach and what do if you have one

By attending this session, you will understand what personal data really is and how the law applies to it. You will learn how long to retain it, how to share it with others when required and for example, how to apply one of the six lawful bases. This session covers subjects intended to help you with everyday requirements which will help to reduce the risk of non-compliance.

This course is relevant to anyone who has access to personal data for which their organisation is responsible.
