In the last 12 months, HMRC have made changes to the R&D tax relief scheme in a bid to eradicate the fraud and malpractice that has developed within the R&D tax sector over a number of years. Whilst these changes are broadly welcomed, they’ve created waves in the R&D tax market, and uncertainty amongst both accountancy firms and their SME clients.

The accountancy sector are starting to see these changes as a catalyst to rethink their operations and reconsider the risk associated with using third party providers, and SMEs recognise that their accountants are their most trusted advisor, so are turning to them for help to prepare their claims. This hunger for support is leading to more and more accountancy firms looking at how best to implement a new R&D tax service offering under their own brand, which in turn brings the additional benefit of adding a new layer of value to their client relationships.

The following topics are covered during the session:

  • How has the R&D tax scheme changed over the past 12 months
  • How has HMRC’s approach to policing the scheme developed & how has the new regime impacted accountants and their clients?
  • What are the current market dynamics as a result of these changes? Is there really a new opportunity for firms?
  • How are firms adapting to these changes?
  • What steps should you be taking to make sure your clients are supported effectively?
