Course Details

Two of the most generous tax reliefs available to companies in the United Kingdom are Patent Box Tax Relief and Creative Industries Tax Relief, and yet both of these reliefs are widely regarded to be underclaimed by companies who are eligible for the reliefs.

This course looks a little deeper into the mechanics of both reliefs, with the common outcome being a reduction in the amount of corporation tax payable and/or being eligible to receive a payable credit from HM Revenue & Customs.

The main points being covered in this course are:

Patent Box

-              Eligibility criteria

-              Qualifying IP profit calculation

-              Elections, pending patents and timeframes

-              Future of Patent Box

Mark Wood

Mark started his career in 2004 as an auditor at a Sheffield-based accountancy firm. After qualifying as an accountant, he moved into the specialist tax advisory sector where he has specialised in R&D tax relief since 2010. To date has presided over no fewer than 500 successful claims, saving clients a significant sum of money in the form of corporation tax relief and R&D tax credits.

As well as R&D tax relief Mark specialises in two further areas of tax relief: Patent Box and Creative Industries, both since their introduction into the UK corporation tax framework in 2013. Mark made one of the first Patent Box claims in the UK later in the year, and has continued to save companies tax across these specialist reliefs over the course of the last ten years.
