Member states must implement the EU Pay Transparency Directive by 7th June 2026. Whilst most EU member states already have equal pay legislation, the Directive substantially adds to company obligations. Member states will need to appoint a national body to oversee the new reporting and disclosure procedures, and it is likely that employer payrolls will need to commission substantive new analysis and reporting requirements. For employers based in the UK, the Directive will not apply for employees within the UK but will extend to employees within the wider EU including Republic of Ireland. It is likely however that, as the Directive sets new standards and expectations on gender pay equality, UK businesses will feel some pressure to comply with wider EU norms.
