The CIS scheme was first introduced in 1971 to help combat serious tax evasion within the Construction Industry. Fifty years on, HMRC were still striving to ensure compliance, resulting in them being granted additional powers to achieve rectification for non-compliance in 2021. Last year, HMRC kick-started a campaign to target contractors with records indicating they may not have applied the correct CIS deductions. Issuing ‘one to many’ letters, the intention was to prompt them to proactively verify the status of their sub-contractors. Join us in gaining insight into the complex rules attached to the CIS scheme.

In this course Ros Hendren covers the following topics:

  • Contractor or Sub-Contractor - why this is so important
  • Registration and Verification - exploring the process
  • Making deductions – how to approach the calculation
  • Invoicing and Monthly reporting – required information
  • Recovery of deductions – prompt promotion of cash flow
