Attend this webinar to learn what every accountant and tax advisor needs to know about navigating complexity, compliance, and accounting in the Construction Industry Scheme. Be in a position to add real value to your clients, by gaining the information and skills to ensure they avoid penalties, and promote and protect cashflow, thus improving trusted advisor relationships. The CIS scheme was first introduced in 1971 to help combat serious tax evasion within the Construction Industry. Fifty years on, HMRC were still striving to ensure compliance, resulting in them being granted additional powers to achieve rectification for non-compliance in 2021. Last year, HMRC kick-started a campaign to target contractors with records indicating they may not have applied the correct CIS deductions. Issuing ‘one to many’ letters, the intention was to prompt them to proactively verify the status of their sub-contractors. Join us in gaining insight into the complex rules attached to the CIS scheme.

In this webinar Ros Hendren will cover the following topics:

  • Contractor or Sub-Contractor - why this is so important
  • Registration and Verification - exploring the process
  • Making deductions – how to approach the calculation
  • Invoicing and Monthly reporting – required information
  • Recovery of deductions – prompt promotion of cash flow

By attending this session, you will gain an understanding of your clients’ status and HMRC reporting obligations relevant to the Construction Industry Scheme. By gaining a more detailed insight into the complexities associated with this industry, you will be in a position to promote your profile within your client/supplier relationships. By initiating and leading proactive discussions to highlight potential areas of risk clients may be unaware of, unnecessary penalties may be successfully avoided.

This session will be invaluable to tax advisors looking to assist clients in promoting compliance activity within the CIS industry. Auditors will gain an insight into potential areas of risk to look out for. Business owners will benefit from understanding the registration process and how to gain prompt recovery of deductions.
