Formulas are central to Excel, and Copilot introduces a faster, more conversational way to build them. In this session, you’ll see how Copilot can turn plain-English requests into formulas, explain how formulas work, and help troubleshoot problems when calculations go wrong. The session will focus on practical formula tasks, while also showing how Copilot can help users take advantage of modern Excel functions.

In this session Alan Murray will cover the following topics:

  • Using Copilot to create formulas from natural language instructions.
  • Generating formulas for lookups, text calculations, dates, conditional logic, and dynamic arrays.
  • Using Copilot to explain formulas in simple language.
  • Troubleshooting broken formulas or unexpected results with Copilot support.
  • Improving and modernising formula approaches with Copilot suggestions.

By attending this session, you will,

  • Learn how to use Copilot to build formulas more quickly and confidently.
  • Understand how to phrase prompts for different types of calculations.
  • Gain confidence checking and validating Copilot-generated formulas.
  • Discover ways to simplify and modernise existing spreadsheet logic.
  • Use Copilot as a support tool for both creating and understanding formulas.

This session will be of most interest to accountants, finance teams, and Excel users who rely on formulas for day-to-day calculations, reconciliations, reporting, and analysis, and want to use Copilot to speed up and strengthen their work.
