All managers get involved in recruitment at some stage in their work, and there are a number of legal issues to consider. Discrimination needs to be avoided, of course. Can we ask about convictions? Can we take a reference, and how valuable is it? Can we ask questions about someone’s health? What happens if we verbally offer a job at the end of an interview, is that binding? In summary, how can we approach recruitment and be sure that what we are doing is legally compliant?
